Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS)

SAP Enterprise Cloud Services (ECS) is the dedicated managed services arm of SAP, responsible for the technical operation of RISE with SAP environments. ECS acts as the “Technical Managed Services” (TMS) provider, ensuring that SAP Cloud ERP and associated workloads are stable, secure and compliant.

By managing the infrastructure and “Basis” layer (OS, Database and SAP Kernel), ECS allows organizations to shift from a high-maintenance, on-premises model to a standardized cloud-delivery model.

Key roles and responsibilities

• Infrastructure management: Orchestrating workloads across SAP Data Centers, hyperscalers (AWS, Azure, GCP) or customer data centers (CDC)
• Lifecycle management: Performing mission-critical technical maintenance, including system provisioning, proactive patching and backup/restore operations
• Technical health monitoring: Continuous monitoring of system availability and performance according to defined service-level agreements (SLAs)
• Clean core enforcement: Locking down the infrastructure to prevent uncertified OS-level changes, thereby reducing technical debt and ensuring system upgradeability
